Police get arrest warrant for 'suspected Ashanti Chief ‘killer'


Police in the Ashanti Region have secured a court warrant for the arrest of one Mohammed Sadat popularly known as Alhaji, as they pursue the killers of a sub-chief in the Ashanti region.

Mohammed Sadat, 38, is said to be the suspect in the gruesome murder of the prominent Manhyia Palace sub-chief who used to the chief driver of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Deputy Ashanti Region Police Commander, ACP David Agyemang Adjem told the media, the suspect was seen in a convoy with the chief on the day he was killed

The suspect who is a spiritualist also owes the late sub-chief an undisclosed sum of money, the police say.

The Asantehene's war marshal, Asamponhene Nana Kwadwo Afuduo’s body was abandoned in his Land Cruiser vehicle and set on fire by the alleged killers on Sunday, August 18.

It is the second time in 10-years a prominent personality linked to the Golden Stool has been killed under mysterious circumstances.
 The suspect is said to have invited the late chief to meet with him at Suame, a suburb of Kumasi, to settle a loan he had secured after months of failure to repay.

Hours later, his body was found by a group who were returning from a church service at the outskirts of the village - Ebuom on the Ejura - Nkoranza highway and it had multiple stabs.

The assailants were said to have attempted to set the car ablaze to avoid any traces.

According to the police, the vehicle run into a huge stone which prevented it from running into a ditch.

The church members together with a farmer who was said to have spotted the burning car put out the fire before finding the partly burnt body at the back seat.
