Police in the Ashanti Region has been able to arrest five (5) out of the ten (10) suspected armed robbers who attacked a bullion van at Adansi Nyankomase near Fomena in the Ashanti Region, where a police officer was also shot dead in the process.
A police officer, General Lans Corporal Baba Martin who was dispatched to provide security to a bullion van transporting cash to amount of Ghc 500,000.00 was shot dead in a robbery attack at Adansi Nyankomase near Fomena in the Adansi District of the Ashanti Region, making away with the money.
The five suspects who are currently in police custody relating to the incident are Bismark Owusu Ansah aged 29, Azumah Titus – 23, Kofi Matthew – 24, Kwadwo Agyapong 30 and Martin Tei/Kwadwo Darko – 26 years respectively.
The suspects were arrested in their various hideouts across the country, Techiman (Bono East Region), Abuakwa (Kumasi), Apire, and Kasoa in the Central Region.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, COP Kwasi Mensah Duku addressing the media in Kumasi said all the five suspects have admitted to being part of the robbery incident.
An amount of Ghc 53, 934.00 has been retrieved from them, including two (2) Toyota salon cars, 2 motorbikes and one tricycle (pragia), etc., believed to be what they used the proceeds from the robbery to purchase.
Five others are said to be on the run including their ring leader, John Appiah (Omega) aged 22 years old, with police in manhunt for them.
The ringleader, John Appiah (Omega), according to the police was also involved in the ambulance attack at Asesewa at Koforidua in which the driver was shot dead and also the robbery attack at Manso Nkwanta last year 2020 in which a police officer was also shot dead.
While processing the suspects in custody to court, the police are also calling on the general public to assist them with information that will lead to the arrest of the other accomplices.
